I love a house with a good porch. A veranda is even better. A front deck is a place to greet people, a spot for watching the neighborhood and great stage for flower pots.
If nothing else, a good-sized porch is another spot to decorate. Create an outdoor room with definitive purpose; provide shelter, a place to sit and some visual pieces that appeal to you. Above all else, have good lighting.

Proper lighting on a porch is paramount for safety, and it can look oh-so chic when you get out of the comfort zone from typical outdoor lighting pieces. I recommend vintage or thrifted pieces, and having them rewired to suit UL Damp locations. No matter your home's exterior style, there's a unique and show-stopping lighting statement for your porch.
